WAYS TO HELP YOUR STUDENT SUCCEED
1. Complete all homework assignments. A complete homework consists of attempting every problem, showing all necessary work, and using a pencil only. If a student gets stuck on a problem, they should read through their notes and the section in the textbook, and go through examples to help them. Homework is given almost every night and it is essential to complete the homework if the student is going to do well. Also, be sure study for quizzes and tests. Set up a routine time and place for homework and studying. You can check my school website for the homework assignments and dates of upcoming quizzes and tests.
2. Be sure the student is prepared for class and arrives on time everyday. Being prepared means the student has the text book covered and has all the required materials in class everyday.
3. Express high expectations for student achievement. Make sure the knows everyone truly wants him/her to do well. I offer extra help to any student who needs it so please attend at the first sign of struggle.
4. Understand the school rules about academic integrity. Cheating will only hurt a student in the long run. This not only applies to writing papers and completing projects, but also with taking tests/quizzes and completing homework assignments.
5. Understand the school rule about the appropriate time to use cell phones and MP3 players (iPods), which is only during lunch. Use of these electronic devices any other time besides lunch is not only against school rules, but also hinders learning.
6. If a student is absent from school, take the initiative to find out what was missed and to complete the missed work as soon as possible.
7. Establish a reasonable bed time, if possible. A well rested child is more likely to pay attention, learn, and participate in class.
